Five Technology Trends worth watching

(Click on link above for full report)

Consumer Electronics Association predicts five current technology trends worth watching:

3D Printing

Innovations in TVs

Technology innovation in Audio

Mobile devices in Africa

and the most interesting to me:

Education Technology

Among the findings here: 75% of adults surveyed found that technology improves student learning. 75%!!

From the Report:

Learning can Occur Anywhere: Looking ahead, education will no longer be tied to a physical place or a set time. In the K-12 environment, students will interact and learn with other stu- dents across the globe. This can help with acquisition of other languages and learning about other cultures. Home schooled students can receive the same educational opportunities as their in-school counterparts by tapping into apps, online resources and online classes. For schools short on staff and tight on budgets, students can attend online classes for specialized or advanced courses of study that they may not have been able to access before.

Learning will become more interactive through gamification and augmented reality. Game-based learning will be taken to a new level with games that are complex, involve multiple players and focus on problem solving and collaboration. In one game, Peacemaker, students assume the role of a Prime Minister and resolve international conflicts. Another game, Virtual Forensics Lab, teaches college students how to solve crimes. These games allow students to take on roles and experiment and learn from the outcomes of their decisions, all without impacting the real world.
